I enjoyed the main seabass curry, it was my first time tasting a Roti Canai and chicken curry I think i prefer it over an indian naan. The whole experience was delicious. And the super sweet rose and grass jelly drink was also a winner.

We came here for our wedding anniversary and had a great meal and time. Staff were really friendly and the view of the beach was great. The food is really authetic Malaysian and reminded me of my last hoilday in KL. The highlight for me was the salted egg tofu and the Nasi Lemak. But the other dishes were also great. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Weymouth

I have now visited the restaurant 3 times! With tables of 2, 3, and 14. Each time the staff have been exceptional with service and the food has been delicious!!!! It’s so authentic and tasty, I highly recommend the chicken satay, roti and beef rendang. A must visit in Weymouth!

Wow! This Malaysian restaurant is a wonderful asset for Weymouth! Drove down from Somerset and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Satay was delicious as a starter and then the mains (nasi lemak with beef rendang, laksa) were spot on. The staff were very welcoming, table overlooking the sea and great music too. Thanks guys, hope to be back.

As a British-Malaysian, I’m incredibly particular about Malaysian food — but this place? Pure magic ???????? The tender beef rendang (slow-cooked for hours!) bursts with fresh lemongrass, fiery chilies, and golden turmeric, all dancing in perfect harmony. Nasi Lemak, AMAZING, end the fish dishes, fresh and delicious! Every bite transported me straight home. 10/10! — hands down one of the most authentic Malaysian food experiences I’ve had abroad. Can’t wait to be back for more!

Authentic delicious Malay food. We used to live in KL and miss Malay food. We were so happy to find this little gem right at our doorstep. Can’t wait to go back.

Waited a few months before going here, give them time to settle down and get a few reviews posted. Went for dinner on Saturday night, nicely busy but not full, so service was very good and attentive. We don’t really know Malaysian cuisine, but are happy to be guided, and this is a good place to try it, for the uninitiated it’s like a heavier version of Thai food, not surprising given their proximity to each other. The food was great, the servers happy to explain what is on the menu and why each dish is served as it is. Our only comment is; the service could be paced a little better, it arrives quickly with little time between courses, so a slower pace would make it feel less hurried. Oh, and at the moment it’s BYO, but if you forget, the Derby Road Store around the corner has a secret chilled wine fridge, and they are also very friendly.

Stumbled across this place as even though we live in Weymouth we had no idea this place had opened inside the Carlton hotel. My Mrs has lived in Malaysia so we thought we would see how authentic the food was and we couldn’t have been more happy with our overall experience. The menu is minimalistic but what they do serve is absolutely fantastic and the service was 10/10. We will absolutely recommend this restaurant and we will return in a regular basis as it a hidden gem. Alcohol was not being served as the license is pending but that will be resolved in the next couple of weeks we believe and this did not detract from our experience. Minor constructive criticism would be maybe have a few more dishes on the menu and maybe make it look less like a hotel breakfast room.

Malaya Lah Restaurant at the Carlton Hotel stands as a vibrant beacon of authentic Malaysian cuisine in the heart of Weymouth. Situated right by the sea at 132 Brunswick Terrace, it not only offers a scenic coastal view but also delivers a culinary journey that transports diners straight to the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur. From the moment you enter, the warm hospitality of the staff sets the tone for an unforgettable dining experience.

The menu is a celebration of Malaysia’s rich food heritage, with highlights that consistently draw praise from both locals and travelers. The beef rendang deserves special mention—slow-cooked for hours, it reveals tender meat infused with the fragrant notes of lemongrass, fiery chili, and golden turmeric. This dish alone is a masterclass in balance and depth of flavor.

Equally impressive is the Nasi Lemak, a Malaysian staple that’s elevated here with perfectly cooked rice, aromatic coconut milk, and flavorful accompaniments that make each bite resonate with tradition. The fresh and vibrant seafood dishes, like the seabass curry, showcase the restaurant’s commitment to using quality ingredients, expertly married with classic Malaysian spices.

One cannot overlook the Roti Canai, which offers a delightful alternative to the usual Indian naan, paired beautifully with a fragrant chicken curry. This flaky, crispy flatbread is a textural delight and a testament to authentic Malaysian street food. The chicken satay starter is another crowd favorite—charred just right and served with a rich peanut sauce that’s both savory and slightly sweet.

Adding to the feast is the unique and refreshing rose and grass jelly drink, a sweet companion that perfectly complements the bold tastes on the plate. This drink brings a pleasant cooling effect, balancing the spices and heat of the main dishes.

Malaya Lah’s consistent quality and vibrant flavors have earned it enthusiastic repeat visits and glowing endorsements, including from discerning palates like British-Malaysians who know their cuisine intimately. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply craving a genuine taste of Malaysia, this restaurant promises a blend of comforting nostalgia and exciting new flavors, all served with the charm of seaside views and impeccable service.

In sum, Malaya Lah Restaurant is more than a place to eat—it’s a destination where culinary craftsmanship and cultural authenticity meet, creating a memorable experience that lingers long after your last bite.
